In recent elections the county voted Republican

2024 Trump/Vance won 70.64% of Mountrail County while getting just under 50% (49.74%) of the national vote.

2020 Trump and Pence won 67.80% of Mountrail County but lost nationally to Biden/Harris. Nationally it was Trump/Pence 47% to Biden/Harris 51%.

2016 Trump and Pence won 62.88% of Mountrail County and won 46% of the vote nationally (compared to Clinton/Kaine 48%) yet won more Electoral votes and thus the Presidency.

2012 Romney and Ryan won 56.75% of Mountrail County but lost nationally with 47% of the vote to Obama/Biden 51%.

2008 The Republican candidates won only 47.86% of Mountrail County (a little better than the national percentage of 46%) and lost to Obama/Biden who took 53% of the national vote.
