This ad ran in the Stanley Sun 26 September 1940. Farm auction advertisements are common in the local newspapers. People die or just get old enough they want to move to town or maybe to someplace where the kids are living.
There is a family tree on Family Search that looks to match this situation. Emil and Anne Mary Ostby1 immigrated from Norway and he died 20 July 1940. They had a couple daughters Mable and Jeanette.
